A term from the early days of Bitcoin when every coin was either Bitcoin or a fork of Bitcoin. All the non-Bitcoin forks were called altcoins, short for alternative coins, so the world was divided into Bitcoin and alts. It is still used today, though is less relevant since there are many different coins with different consensus mechanisms and models that are very different to Bitcoin. NOTE: All altcoins are by definition considered scams and anyone who owns them scammers and idiots, according to Bitcoin maxis.

Contrary to popular belief, crypto mining does not involve a shovel and a pick, rather it’s a competitive process of adding new blocks to a blockchain. Mining allows new tokens to be created within a blockchain, which miners can then sell into crypto markets. See also PoW.

A floor sweep happens when someone buys all the NFTs off a project’s floor. This can be a bullish sign of good news incoming or that whales are circling around a project before it moons. Time to get excited.
